Sketches of liberating constraints
Sketches – Liberating Constraints
This series was born out of a need for movement rather than a need for results.
Each work is a sketch resulting from a deliberately chosen constraint:
time limit, restricted movement, reduced palette, personal prohibition.
Here, the constraint is not a rule, but a trigger.
It forces me to work with less — fewer resources, fewer certainties
and to pay closer attention to the structure, tension, and dialogue between forms.
These sketches are spaces for exploration and friction.
They are not trying to seduce, but to bear witness to a just moment:
a deliberate gesture, a risky decision, an immediate response to what the internet demands.
Each piece then becomes a trace.
The trace of an ongoing learning process, of a fragile balance,
of an active listening between the body, matter and pictorial space.
This series feeds into my background work.
It is the laboratory where tensions and contrasts take shape.
and the intuitions that subsequently permeate my more accomplished works.
To paint in this way is to accept not knowing.
It's choosing experience over mastery.
and let the painting teach me something I didn't yet know.
