From sketch to artwork
This page presents the different stages involved in the creation of a work within the Whispered Tension series. Each painting results from a process in which intuition, exploration, and transformation play a vital role.
The process begins with sketching, a space of freedom where the first ideas emerge. A few lines, shapes, or movements are sometimes enough to reveal a structure, a tension, or a visual direction that will serve as the starting point for creation.
These initial intuitions then evolved into exploratory sketches.
Created quickly, they allow for experimentation with colors, contrasts, rhythms, and visual balances. A true research laboratory, this stage offers the opportunity to explore different avenues before embarking on a larger-format work.
From these explorations emerges the master canvas, a foundational work that brings together the discoveries made during the process. More developed and more complex, it becomes the heart of the project and fully reveals the artistic intentions, tensions, rhythms, and harmonies that characterize the series.
From this master canvas, smaller derivative works then take shape. These creations are not reproductions, but extensions of the research. Each isolates, develops, or transforms certain elements of the master canvas in order to explore new possibilities while maintaining a connection with the original work.
This approach reflects my desire to allow each work to emerge gradually, in a constant dialogue between reflection, intuition and matter.
It also allows visitors to see behind the scenes of the creative process and to follow the journey from a nascent idea to a coherent and vibrant body of work.
In conclusion, this progression, from sketch to canvas and then to the works that follow, demonstrates a creative process in which each step plays an essential role. Behind a finished work lie hours of reflection, exploration, experimentation, questioning, and pictorial research.
The time spent observing, experimenting, building and refining a work is an integral part of its value. Each canvas thus bears the trace of a unique journey where the initial idea gradually transforms into a finished work, imbued with meaning, substance and emotion.

The foundations of research
Block 1

This illustration presents the main stages of my creative process. From the intuitive sketch to the exploratory rough draft, then from the master canvas to the works that result from it.
Each step contributes to the emergence of a clearer and deeper vision. Behind every finished work lies a journey of research, experimentation, reflection, and transformation, where each discovery feeds into the next.

Mother web process, compressed heart

From the preliminary research, some forms present in the sketch disappear while others gain prominence as the process unfolds. The composition evolves into a more complex structure where colored masses, transparencies, and overlaps create a silent tension between stability and movement.
The 4 variations 12x12 inch of the master canvas
These works are not reproductions of the original painting. They stem from the same visual exploration. They explore certain fragments, tensions, or movements present in the original composition while developing their own visual identity.
What this approach reveals
This process demonstrates that a work is not born from a fixed idea, but from a progressive exploration where each sketch becomes an opportunity to reflect, observe and bring forth new possibilities.
Sketches allow you to test rhythms, tensions, balances and color relationships before the paint even takes its place on the canvas.
As this research progresses, certain ideas evolve into foundational canvases, the true anchor points of the series. In turn, these works become a source of inspiration for new creations. The resulting canvases are not reproductions, but interpretations that delve deeper into a movement, a form, a tension, or an emotion already present in the original work.
This way of working makes it possible to build a coherent visual language while leaving room for discovery.
It opens a dialogue between the works, where each creation feeds into the next. Thus, a simple sketch can become the starting point for a series of interconnected works, gradually revealing the richness of an artistic approach in constant evolution.
The research is becoming more refined – Refining without dissipating
Block 4

This illustration shows the development of block 4 of Whispered Tension. The master canvas is still in its early stages of construction. Its structure forms the starting point for a thoughtful research process, in which the composition is gradually refined through analysis and adjustments.
In parallel, eight exploratory sketches are studying different possibilities for development: verticals, diagonals, curves, areas of compression, power dynamics, and spaces for breathing. These explorations do not yet represent the four final works of the block. They constitute avenues that may be retained, transformed, or discarded when the main canvas is further along.
The selection of the four 12×12 canvases will therefore be based on the actual evolution of the original canvas. Each must maintain a structural and pictorial link with it, while developing its own unique composition and identity.
In this fourth block, my research aims particularly at refining without dissipating: maintaining a present and assertive structure while giving more space to pauses, breathing and the hierarchy of forces in the composition.

Recherche chromatique — Bloc 4
